the botanicals...
Born out of the quest to pay homage to traditional English paper currency, MarGin's flavour is unique and intriguing.
At its heart are just three key botanicals: Cotton Lavender; Pink Hyssop and Juniper.
Juniper imparts the clean, uplifting, signature piney note of gin.
Pink Hyssop lends a minty and floral note, serving to calm and ground the other aromatics.
Cotton Lavender brings an inky rosemary quality, along with a gentler camomile note, evoking a crisp sensory thrill of freshly printed banknotes.
Cotton Lavender is a rare pick and never used in a gin before. The flowers are infused when fresh, not dried, and, because it blooms only twice a year, there are only the briefest of opportunities for distilling.
In the words of distiller Mark Boswell, “The essential Juniper we look for in gin is there, but on the nose and in the mouth it’s different. MarGin is special from the first sip.”

“There’s no manual to make a gin that smells like money... you don’t get taught that at university”
Mark Boswell, head distiller.

Independent blind tasting by International Drinks Specialists
Crisp and elegant on the nose, with plenty of pine, juniper and fine citrus notes supported by an intriguing selection of very subtle spices and herbs. It is a focused and neat expression with the cooling effect of the juniper highlighted beautifully. It has a nicely balanced, light and elegant set of aromas.
Dry and silky on the palate with a lovely zesty note supporting the cooling juniper and pine. It has a touch of richness to it on the finish but it stays very elegant and restrained. A delightful and versatile expression that works perfectly with classic Indian tonic water. The slightly higher, more premium alcohol level is beautifully integrated, and it works very well.

the label...
MarGin’s label is a direct homage to one of the most iconic of all bank notes, the white fiver.
Like the white fiver, the MarGin label is printed using black ink only.
The MarGin logo features the same intricate black border as the word ‘Five’ on the bank note. Known as a sum block, it was an early form of anti-counterfeiting device, preventing the word ‘five’ from being altered to ‘fifty’.
The initial ‘L’ of ‘London Dry Gin’ is an exact replica of the pound sign on the note.
A quick peek through the back of the bottle reveals an actual white fiver reproduced on the reverse of the label.
A fun fact: to comply with the Bank of England’s conditions for reproducing currency, the note is shown at least 25% smaller than the original, and slanted at an angle of 20 degrees.
